Fire Control received reports of a 30 year old male 16 hand tall horse, that had fallen and tripped into a stream.
Control quickly mobilised a specialist rescue team from Barnstaple along with an Animal Rescue Tactical Advisor.
Upon arrival, crews soon requested the attendance of further appliances for manpower. These were mobilised from Minehead and Porlock. A vet was also contacted and was soon on scene. The vet sedated the horse to keep it calm during the ordeal.
Fire crews were able to successfully rescue the horse using a manual method with strops and ropes. The horse was still under sedation when the crews retrieved it, but was left with its owner and the vet once rescued.
